COWRA has recieved this notice from the Conn state DEP about a hearing for the proposed permit for restaurant wastewater disposal. The hearing is for people who are concerned with the regulation to input their thoughts on it and help shape it. COWRA urges interested parties to attend the hearing or contact us with any concerns that you may have regarding this proposed regulation, good bad or otherwise.

RE: Public Hearing for General Permit for the Discharge of Wastewater Associated with Food Preparation Establishments

Please find attached a copy of the public notice for the December 1, 2004 public hearing on the proposed general permit for the discharge of wastewater associated with food preparation establishments.

The notice has the details for time and location. Please distribute this notice to your membership, as you deem appropriate. The public notice will also appear in the five major Connecticut newspapers before October 31, 2004. from the website: General Permit for the Discharge of WastewaterAssociated With Food Preparation Establishments That Discharge to Sanitary Sewers DEP uses both individual and general permits to regulate activities.

Individual permits are issued directly to an applicant, whereas general permits are issued to authorize similar minor activities by one or more applicants. Authorization of an activity under a general permit is governed by that general permit. On August 6, 2004, the CT DEP, Bureau of Water Management issued a Notice of Proposed Issuance of the General Permit for the Discharge of Wastewater Associated With Food Preparation Establishments that Discharge to Sanitary Sewers. Written comments were accepted until September 7, 2004. As a result of the written comments, a public hearing has been scheduled for December 1, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. in the Russell Hearing Room, 3rd Floor, 79 Elm Street, Hartford, CT.
